What did you study in school, or what was a favorite subject?
Did you receive your education somewhere other than school?

In high school I took all college prep courses because I always planned to go to college.  High school was easy for me and I loved school although I wasn’t very popular.  I was too much of a ‘nerd’ I guess but I did have friends.  Art classes were my favorites.  After high school I enrolled at Clemson University majoring in Architecture.  My dream was to be an architect and design buildings which my daddy (who was a builder) would then build.  In retrospect I wish I had just majored in art and become a commercial artist.  Architecture was extremely hard.  First of all at that time Clemson had not been coed for many years so there were 2700 male students and 300 female students.  In the School of Architecture the freshman class included 2 females of which I was one so in many of my classes I was the only girl in the class.  Very intimidating for someone as self conscience as I was at that time.  I lived on campus in a dorm and attended classes 6 days a week, Monday thru Friday 8am – 5pm and on Saturday 8am – noon.  In addition I was usually back at the lab working on projects every night so I had very little free time.  Plus the fact that in high school I never learned how to study because it was so easy for me so I was really struggling in college.  In the middle of my second semester one of my lungs collapsed and I missed 3 weeks of school.  I got so far behind that I decided to drop out of school and go back in the fall and change my major.  Of course I got a full time job, bought a car and never went back full time.  Over the years I’ve taken various classes at local colleges and even some over the internet but I’ve always regreted not going back to college and finishing.

Just wanted to wish all you mothers out there a very Happy Mother's Day.  It was suppose to rain here but right now the sun is shining and it's beautiful.  At least on Mother's Day I get a day off!  I don't have to cook or help Charlie with any projects.  He's cooking today.  He's making lasagna and it smells wonderful!  He's actually a very good cook but he doesn't do it very often.  I was right about one thing – I didn't get a card from Traci.  Now I'm curious to see if she will call and wish me a Happy Mother's Day.  It's beyond my understanding as to how a child can forget to send their mother a card.  But I'm sure my child isn't the only one.

It's Friday before Mother's Day.  I've had my mother on my mind alot these past few days.  I miss her so much!  Then on top of that I don't think my daughter is sending me a card.  I'm not sure she even realizes it's Mother's Day on Sunday.  Oh well, I'll survive.  I did get a card from Candy (my step-daughter) with the cutest picture of our grandaughter, Katie, who is now 17 months old.

We were busy all day today.  First we installed the heat/air condition unit in Charlie's shop (that just got finished), then we unloaded the 2 big (7' x 3') cabinets in the shed and moved them up into his shop.  Then we moved his big tool box up there too.  Then we spent 3 hours installing his new electric winch on his 4-wheeler.  I'm tired.

Kathy will be here in 23 more days!! Kathy is my very best friend in the world. I haven’t seen her since Thanksgiving when we drove up to New Jersey. We do talk on the phone every day though. Thank goodness for unlimited long distance. Kathy and her husband, Tony, are flying down on June 3rd. Charlie and I will pick them up in Atlanta and they’ll be here for a week. I can’t wait. I miss Kathy and her hugs.

Living on the Lake Sunday May 7, 2006

Well, the momma and daddy geese have lost 2 of their babies.  They are only 3 now.  I don't know what happened to the other 2 – maybe one of those big turtles in the lake got them.

Yesterday we were down at the dock and Charlie looked over near the sea wall and there was a huge water moccasin that had a catfish in his mouth.  Our neighbor came and got the snake out and killed it.  Then we saw what must have been a young one in the same place and they killed it too.  The big one was at least 5 feet long and as big around as my arm.  I don't like snakes!!

Let me know what you think and whether you'd like to see more.  You can click on the photo to see it bigger.

Traci Thursday May 4, 2006

Well, Traci moved out of Matt's house yesterday and in with a friend, April, and her parents.  I hope this works out okay.  I feel sorry for her and she aggrevates me at the same time.  I know she feels totally on her own back in NJ with no family there but she could have the emotional support of Kathy (who thinks of Traci like a daughter) if she chose but she chooses to not have contact with Kathy at all except for an email every now and again.  I don't understand and it drives me nuts.  April is a fairly new friend.  Traci met her at Petco where they both work.  What I most worry about is what if Traci and April get in a big argument and Traci has to move out.  Where will she go?  She's burned her bridges where living at Matt's is concerned and there is no where else for her to live.  She can't afford an apartment although that is her and April's plan – to get an apartment together by the end of summer.  I don't know how Traci can work enough to pay for an apartment AND go to school.  I told her she may have to work full time and go to school part time but she didn't want to hear that.  It all comes back to the fact (in her mind) that it's all our fault – for leaving NJ and moving to GA before she was done with college.  She refuses to live here in GA.  She hates the fact that we're so far from town.  We always knew that Traci would be starting her second year of college when Charlie retired but we thought she'd be away at a 4 year college, living on campus when we moved.  She's the one that chose to fart around in high school and not be able to get accepted to a 4 year college.  I love my daughter beyond belief but I also believe that she needs to grow up.  She'll be 21 in December and she needs to stop blaming every one else for all her problems.
